A writing class that teaches the formal craft of writing is probably the best place for would be writers to start. Whilst every writer has an idea about what they want to write about learning the craft of writing is invaluable. A good writing class will give you the tools to write better as well as teaching you how to use those tools. Most writing classes will give you writing exercises to complete and then discuss your work at class. A beneficial aspect of a writing group is that you hear about other writers’ stories and get feedback both good and bad about your own writing.
